Shalom, Mitspacha!
The Torah portion today brings us to one of the most mysterious mitzvot - the commandment of the Parah Adumah, the Red Heifer. Its ashes were mixed with living water for the purification of those who had become defiled by contact with death. Though its full reason remains hidden, it reveals YHVH’s divine pattern of cleansing and renewal through separation between the clean and unclean.
“And for the unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel.” - Bemidbar 19 - 17
The ashes represented death overcome, while the running water symbolized life restored. In this divine paradox, the impure priest becomes the purifier, foreshadowing the ultimate cleansing through Yahusha, who bore our impurity to make us pure.
The commandment of the Red Heifer points toward the purity of the heart. The water of cleansing teaches us that purification is not simply ritual but spiritual - an act of returning to YHVH’s holiness. Yahusha Ha’Mashiach fulfills this picture perfectly, being both the sacrifice and the source of living water.
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” - Ivrim 10 - 22
Today, in Israel, preparations for this mitzvah have stirred again. Five red heifers were brought from Texas in 2022. One was recently used for a practice burning, though not within the Temple precincts, reminding us that the world still watches for restoration. Yet even so, our true cleansing is not in earthly ashes but in the heavenly waters of redemption through Yahusha.
Let us draw near to YHVH in purity and humility, seeking to be cleansed from all defilement of body and spirit. As the ashes of the red heifer once restored access to the sanctuary, so may our hearts be renewed that we might walk continually in His presence. Remember that purification is not isolation - it is transformation, bringing life out of death and holiness out of separation.
Abba YHVH, cleanse us by the washing of Your Word and the renewing of Your Ruach. Remove from us every defilement of death and restore in us a pure heart. Let Your living waters flow through our lives, sanctifying us daily. Teach us to honor the holiness of Your dwelling, and prepare us for the day when all uncleanness shall be removed from Yisra’el forever.
Baruch YHVH.
May YHVH bless you and keep you.
May YHVH make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
May YHVH lift up His countenance upon you and give you shalom.
Baruch YHVH.
Shalom until tomorrow.
