A DESERT INCIDENT: THE DOUBLE PORTION OF MANNA

📖 Torah Reading

“And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread…”
– Shemot 16:22

✨ Message

On Erev Shabbat in the wilderness, something miraculous occurred: the double portion. Not merely extra food, but a lesson. A sign. A reminder that YHVH Himself prepares rest for His people.

When Yisrael stepped into the sixth day, they were reminded to trust - not in their own work, but in His provision. They had to believe that what He supplied would carry them through into the holiness of Shabbat.

Some still went out to gather on Shabbat morning… and found nothing. Not because YHVH failed, but because their hearts struggled to let go of daily striving.

Erev Shabbat teaches us this: Provision is tied to obedience. Rest is tied to trust.

As we prepare for tomorrow, may we lay down every burden we still attempt to solve in our own strength. The desert incident of the double portion calls us back to faith - faith that tomorrow’s needs have already been answered.

📖 Reflection

“Stand still, and see the salvation of YHVH…”
– Shemot 14:13

🩵 Application and Mitzvot

Erev Shabbat is a mitzvah in motion. Today, fulfill these acts with intention:

– Set aside the week’s concerns and stop the cycle of striving.
– Prepare your space: light, order, calmness.
– Prepare your heart: gratitude, forgiveness, humility.
– Remember the manna: YHVH provides before we enter rest.

Let Shabbat enter your home with holiness, not haste. Let it find you ready.

🙌 Prayer

Abba YHVH, we thank You for the double portion You provide before Shabbat. Teach us to trust Your timing, Your provision, and Your rest. Quiet our hearts from the noise of the week and draw us into the peace You have set apart for Your people.

Abba YHVH, shape our hearts in integrity. Remove every hidden intention that dishonors Your Name. Teach us to walk in fairness, compassion, and truth in every exchange. May our dealings with others reveal Your righteousness and Your mercy. Strengthen us as we enter Your rest to be a people who reflect Your justice in all things.

We pray for peace in the Middle East, South Africa, and the world. Give Your peace in a broken world.< br/> We pray for the elderly, the farmers, and the workers of the land. Protect them with Your angels against those who abuse them and seek their lives.
We pray for evangelists worldwide, especially those suffering persecution. Protect them in their difficult circumstances and give them boldness to carry Your Word where it’s needed.
We pray for the ill, especially those battling cancer and new viral afflictions. YHVH Raphah, heal them in Your great mercy.
